Finding Peace in Faith-Based Wellness: A Peek at the Health & Healing God’s Way Conference

Writer: Maureen DiazMaureen Diaz

The internet is overflowing with social media content dedicated to wellness . It seems you can’t go 15 minutes without someone promising you a slim beach body in 30 days, or exposing how they’ve only been eating eggs for two months. And sure, there’s a lot of helpful stuff too, but there’s also a large amount of wellness practices that lose sight of what’s important and wind up causing harm. A good way to avoid these mistakes is to ground our health in something timeless: biblical principles. As Christians, the Bible is our compass and companion for a lot of challenges, and it couldn’t be different with wellness.

With that in mind, here’s some great biblical wellness tips that you can use to take care of your body in a way that honors and thanks God.

What Did They Eat in Eden, Anyway?

Ever wonder what Adam and Eve were eating back in the Garden? Genesis 1:29 gives us a glimpse—plants and seeds, straight from the earth, unprocessed and simple. Then there’s honey (Proverbs 24:13), olive oil (Deuteronomy 8:8), bread, (Genesis 3;19), fish (Luke 24:42-43), veal, cheese and miik (Genesis 18:8), lamb (Genesis 12:21)—all these beautiful provisions pop up in Scripture as real, nourishing food. And in so many places do we see the same advice be echoed: keep it balanced. Proverbs 25:16 nudges us not to overdo it, which feels like such a gentle, practical reminder in a world that’s all about excess. In fact, there’s a word for that, temperance, which just so happens to be a virtue and a fruit of the spirit.

Healing the Way God Intended

Then there’s the whole idea of natural remedies. Scripture’s full of examples—think frankincense and myrrh (Exodus 30:22-25) or hyssop (Psalm 51:7), used for healing and cleansing. Proverbs 17:22 tells us that “a joyful heart is good medicine” which can certainly be seen as God nudging us on to take care of our mental health. Scripture invites us to think about health beyond pills and to embrace  the natural stuff God’s already made for us, all the while reminding us of the importance to care for both body and spirit.

Rest Isn’t Lazy—It’s Holy

Okay, can we talk about rest for a sec?  So often at church we will hear the praises of hard work, and rightly so. But Exodus 20:8-10, where God sets up the Sabbath, we also find the idea that rest isn’t optional—it’s sacred. Sleep, downtime, stepping away from the grind to just be with family or in worship—it’s how we recharge. And, of course, there is constructive and destructive rest, but still, rest we must, and we must do so with gratitude.

Caring for Ourselves and the Earth

This is a famous one, which is why we couldn’t go without mentioning it. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 calls our bodies temples of the Holy Spirit, it is an abode for God, so how should we like Him to find his home? Surely our God, who loves  And then there’s Genesis 2:15, which tells us to tend the earth, and it becomes hard not to relate the two ideas. Sustainable farming, eating healthy things that are ethically made, that’s stewardship over the body and the earth. Both are God’s gift to us, and as such, we should take care of them.

Why I’m Counting Down to April

All the topics we’ve covered on this post are going to get explored more in-depth at the Health & Healing God’s Way Conference taking place April 25 to 27, 2025 on the beautiful regenerative Montgomery Family Farm (Melvin's Farm to Fork Store) near Roanoke, Virginia. It’ll be three days of learning from people who get it—Christian health practitioners, wellness experts, and farmers who live out their faith in tandem with their professions. We’ll have workshops, farm tours, worship, and even farm-to-table meals that let you taste the difference. And the best part? Connecting with others who are on the same wavelength, whether you’re just starting out or have been at this for years. They’ve even got something for the kids, so it’s a family thing if you want it to be.

If this is sparking something in you, don’t sleep on it—spots are limited so register today! I’m already daydreaming about how this could shift the way I live day-to-day, and I’d love for you to come along. Pop over to our events page for all the details and to grab your spot. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!
